The name Inera is adapted from the Old English word innera, meaning inner or interior. It reflects our belief that thoughtful design begins from the inside out, shaping spaces that are deeply personal, purposeful and enduring.

At Inera Studio, interiors are more than environments. They are expressions of the people who inhabit them, designed to bring a sense of calm, connection and belonging to everyday life. A house should be a home, and a home should always be welcoming.

About Nicola

Nicola began her career with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Design, spent twenty years in graphic design and residential decorating, and later completed an Advanced Diploma in Interior Design. She later completed a Diploma of Building Design, which led to her registration as a Design Practitioner. She has since worked in some of Sydney's largest architecture and interior design firms, across hospitality, multi-residential, aged care and residential projects.

She has also renovated multiple houses of her own, which means she understands what a client is actually asking for, not just what they say. She favours style over trends, believes the world is a big place worth exploring, and treats life as one long celebration.

Working across both interior and building design means the plan and the interior are resolved together rather than handed between consultants. As a Registered Design Practitioner, Nicola delivers Class 2 apartment work in-house, including the documentation those projects require, and an established network of builders, trades and consultants means projects can move from concept to site without a gap.

Our Approach

A house should be a home, and a home should always be welcoming. That is the whole position, and everything else follows from it. Much of the studio's work involves existing houses, often ones that have lost their original character through decades of alteration. The approach is restoration as much as design: putting back what was taken, then adding what a house, apartment, & an interior space genuinely needs. Style over trends, because a house has to work for far longer than a trend lasts.
